Review on Nihilistic Propaganda:

Nihilism.
This release is the epitome of nihilsm.
“What’s the point of anything? …We are nothing. Worthless walls” An appropriate and fitting info on the back of the sleeve, presented by this Chilean project.

The first track, is a perfect opening wall into this bitter and dark brutality. A constant battle between a titanic bass judder and a crunchy, uncompromising slices of static, mixed in a maelstorm of brutal, yet bleak and desperate noise. The whole wall is highly entrancing, and reminiscing of waves crushing endlessly onto the rocks. Truly a great wall, brutal and dark.

The second track is a stark and pounding wall, constantly battering the listener with a crude mix of crackling noise and a backing monolithic hum. The hum is perfectly engulfing and captivating in its own grandeur, and mixed with the static, provides for a brutal and destroying wall.Near the end, the elements disperse, leaving only a lonesome rattle that soon dies off, thus ending the wall.

The final, third track, is a muffled and omnious, harsh-static dominated wall. As the listener goes further into the track, the engulfing hum comes into the first plan, overwhelming and bleak, shadowing the static in its monumentality. The wall is dark and omnious, yet brutal in its own way. At one point the static completely dissapears, showing the true face behind the hum, a crude bass, riddled with small static punctuations. Soon after, the whole thing starts again. Crushing, brutal mix of the hum, now accompanied with a thunderous harsh static.
These changes appear a few more times through the wall. Dispersion of static, leaving the hum on its own, then appearing again, more violent then before. At one point, the static doesn’t return, thus leaving the hum to slowly fade out, ending the wall.

This higly enjoyed release consists of trully brutal, devastating, and yet bleak and hateful walls, and is a recommendation to all HNWallers.

“Abuse” review on musique machine

A.R.GH – Abuse[Prime Unit Records – 2010]

‘Abuse’ is an early release by Chilean noise artist A.R.GH. on Chilean label Prime Unit records.

I’ve reviewed a more recent work from this artist before, and to be quite honest this does not compare as it is quite run of the mill experimentation. The style is very basic and with no clear direction as to where the track intends to go. There is plenty of chaos and plenty of noise, but it fails to impress with its fundamental approach of simply attacking the source with pedals or in some parts maybe a synthesizer. The high levels of feedback also make it a little tough to listen to, but some might say that’s what makes a noise record what it is. Both sides employ the same method and come off too similar or as a extension of the previously heard track which in some cases is tolerable, but in such case makes the release a little less interesting.

‘Abuse’ is not bad or awful even, but it is very elementary and lacks stand out features. In contrast this artist has since shown some promise with his HNW works which have stepped up in quality. It’s interesting to see how an artist develops his style, and this document definitely can be measured up against his recent works as the beginnings of a developing artist.

New review of “Santiago” 3″ cd-r

http://solaranus.synthasite.com/index/trade-reviews-x

A.R.GH, Santiago
3″, Bored Bear Recordings, 2010

Two tracks of basic, yet involved Noise. “Stucked (sic) In The Subway” sounds like site recordings made with cassette layered together that really do give the impression of being trapped in a human herd in some tunnel somewhere. The melange of hissing sounds and splintered voice continue like a solid block of sound with many grainy details and cuts that don’t have to be imagined. “(No) Time To Relax” sounds similar although elements of feedback and crashing objects replace the voices and site sounds, culminating in a sick sounding electronic tone snarling and growling in disgust. The fidelity is just right, favouring filth but not without nuance, and the tones tend to range more in the middle than indulge in the lower end. The ruddy mustiness of the pieces give the impression of the world around closing in and fracturing to shrapnel; there’s a fine sense of panic put forward with these. I found myself liking this album almost immediately, as there’s a nice sense of simplicity to the structures that doesn’t wallow in boring monotone or rush off into complexity, and it’s an album that I enjoy more each time.
